Summary

I've worked on both public and private projects, ranging from simple Web portals to online dashboards.  In most cases I do the entire user experience process from requirements to final prototypes and continue to work with the design and program staff to create a completed project.  Many of the project artifacts are still covered under NDAs, but the examples below have been either exempted or scrubbed for portfolio use.

Some examples:
WellAware Systems - an online dashboard for non-technical users to access sensor data about their senior loved ones.  I handled the creation of personas and use cases, requirements, wireframes, user studies, and high level prototypes.

California Office of the Patient Advocate – I was the UX Lead for the entire redesign project, including the user testing and prototyping.

VHDA – I was both the Web Subject Matter Expert (SME) and UX Lead for the business' Web Modernization Program.  As the Manager of Web Systems I also created and documented all of the accessibility and usability guidelines.

Commonwealth of Virginia – From 1998 – 2005 I was the UX expert for the state of Virginia (although an employee of a private company, the Commonwealth was our sole client in a public/private partnership).  I created the first UX Lab in Virginia government, and drafted the state's Web UX and Accessibility Policy, which is still used by the executive branch.  I also managed the state's Web portal at www.virginia.gov for many years.
 During this time I also served on the Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) Content Group.

I travelled to California to run the user study for this site, testing both the original site and the new designs we had created.  The goal was to find which combination of design elements were the most successful.  We included the original site in order to create a baseline, as well as to be able to show ROI for the final design.

Capital One markets their products to different regions in different ways, and they use the data associated with those regions to determine which methods are working best.  As part of that, I needed to understand the process flow the users would take to get to final content.
SME, Usability, Accessibility, and User Testing
 
VHDA was unwilling to let me share project artifacts of the user study or UX process.  Suffice to say it was handled in much the same way I've done other user studies.
